Art

Art and design play an important role in the development of the whole child emotionally, aesthetically, spiritually, intellectually and socially.

Computing

Computing prepares children to fully participate in a developing world. Children will be encouraged to use a variety of technology in school to enhance their learning in a creative and stimulating way.

Design and Technology

Design and Technology prepares pupils to participate in tomorrow’s rapidly changing technologies.

Geography

At Buxton Infant School we use a creative topic based curriculum and because of this the relevance of geography is not limited to its own discipline but is enlivened by it links to other subject areas.

History

History is the study of times that have passed and should inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about the past. Pupils are encouraged to see history as exciting and relevant to them and thereby able to understand the present in the context of the past.

Literacy

Literacy skills are used in all areas of the curriculum and provide the means by which we communicate ideas, views and feelings throughout our lives.

Mathematics

Maths is a universal part of human culture. It is a key building block of everything in our daily lives. It is the tool and language of commerce, engineering, physics, computing, biology, and other sciences. It helps us recognise patterns and to understand the world around us.

Music

Music is a subject that all children can participate in and enjoy. Sharing musical experiences enhances children’s abilities to develop their imagination, listen attentively and express personal thoughts and feelings.

Physical Education

Physical Education is concerned with the skilful management of the body and how it is used in varied and challenging situations. Physical Education is concerned with developing knowledge and understanding in games, dance and outdoor activities.

PSHE

At Buxton Infant School we believe that the personal, social and physical development of the pupils in our care is of paramount importance. Therefore, we see PSHE as being at the centre of all that we do and learn.

Religious Education

Religious Education is an essential component of a broad and balanced curriculum for all pupils in Reception and upwards.

Science

Science is an understanding of natural phenomena. It aims to stimulate a child’s curiosity to find out why things happen in the way they do.

Relationships and Sex Education

The aims of relationships and sex education at Buxton Infant School are to provide children with the opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and understanding to lead a confident, healthy and happy life. We have a strong focus on developing children’s understanding of positive and healthy relationships, to enable successful relationships throughout their lives.

Teaching and Learning

At Buxton Infant School we want everyone to be happy to come to school. We expect children and staff to work hard, feel confident and valued and be extremely purposeful so that together we can achieve the best for everyone. The welfare and education of the children are at the heart of everything we do here.

Phonics & Reading

At Buxton Infant School our key aim is to ensure that all children crack the phonics code to become confident and fluent readers. We strive to develop a love of reading in all of our pupils which will last a lifetime.
