Throughout SMSC we ensure that the fundamental British Values are taught and demonstrated within our school. The British Values are defined as:
democracy
rule of law
individual liberty
mutual respect
tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs
Our planning ensures we promote and give children the opportunities to explore these concepts further throughout all curriculum areas, particular, RE PSHE and R-time lessons. Furthermore, children learn about being part of Britain from different specific perspectives. We plan lessons for children to learn about different parts of Britain through the Geography curriculum. Through the History curriculum we look at events that’s have shaped Britain as we know it and looked at significant British people from the past e.g. Florence Nightingale.
During their time at Buxton Infant School, pupils encounter a range of extracurricular activities to broaden their experiences beyond their local community. Pupils have the opportunity to visit places of worship such as churches and synagogues. Additionally, children are involved with our links between a number of European schools along with a contrasting school in Manchester.
