Special Educational Needs

At Buxton Infant School we believe that all children should have a smiling start and that no stone is left unturned to ensure that every child reaches their full potential.

My name is Helen Bates and I am the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO). I am new to the role but have taught at Buxton Infant School for 7 years and I am very proud of our school’s record and reputation for inclusion. My role is to support the identification of children with special educational needs and to co-ordinate the provision for them. I liaise with parents and teachers of children with any additional needs, as well as with external agencies and educational psychologists.

Where possible we aim to get to know all the children starting at our school well before they enter the Foundation Stage and have excellent links with the local nurseries and preschool provision.

In this section you will find our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Policy, which is reviewed annually, and the SEND Information Report, which gives more details about SEND provision at BIS.

If you would like to discuss any questions regarding SEN provision, you can contact myself or Mrs Boyd by telephoning the school office on 01298 22499. We will call you back as soon as we can and are more than happy to meet with you in school to discuss anything in more detail. Our door is always open.

Our SEND Governor is Sarah Cafferky, our previous SENCO, and she can be contacted via the school office on 01298 22499 or email and your message will be forwarded.

I look forward to getting to know you and your child.

Helen Bates, SENCO
