Welcome to Year 1!
In Year 1 we carry on from the excellent foundation of our learning in Early Years. Our lessons are exciting and stimulating, and develop and build on our existing knowledge, understanding and skills’ in line with the broader aims of the National Curriculum. Phonics remains a priority, giving essential skills - to read to access learning and to write for the ability to express our ideas. Reading at home is still really important as it provides an opportunity to practice what we learn at school and continue to develop a love of books.
Out and About...
In year 1 we love to get out and bring our leaning to life! We visit Chatsworth where we can enjoy the beautiful gardens and see the sculptures on display. We also visit The Buxton Crescent Experience, where we learn about Buxton, The Crescent and its famous water. We also practice a variety of art techniques as we create pictures and models of the building. Later in the year we go for a walk on the Monsal Trail and take in the beautiful local countryside.
